Marriage Laws: Georgia

ID Requirement: Two forms of ID (i.e. Drivers license, Birth certificate, U. S. issued passport, Armed Forces ID card, or Resident Alien ID card). Applicants will also be asked to fill out a brief form. Both the bride and groom must appear in person at the time of applying.

Residency Requirement: None (if couples are not residents of Georgia, they must apply in the county where the marriage is to be performed.

Previous Marriage: If divorced within six months, you will need to show a copy of your divorce decree.

Waiting Period: No waiting period.

Fees: Approximately $26.00+. Some counties will only accept cash.

Under 18: If you are 16 or 17 years old, you may apply if accompanied by both parents who have given written consent. If the bride is pregnant, no parental consent is required if you submit a statement from a licensed physician certifying that the bride is pregnant.

Same Sex Marriages: No.

Officiant: Any minister who is authorized by his or her church may perform marriages. Ministers must complete a certificate of marriage and return it to the ordinary within 30 days after the marriage.
